President's Report
Hello All,
April is here and next month (our May meeting) we will hold our meeting at the Collinsville Day event. It will be a short meeting and we will also have a tent setup with radios and everything. We will be showcasing what to do in an event with no communications. I am sure we have all heard the people saying what can we do when the phones go down like they did several weeks ago. I know what I did and my radio worked just fine.
For those wanting to bring a radio and set up, we will have two tables. Our banner will be across the two tables. We will have "shore power" available but if anyone wants to bring a battery pack they can, no noise generators please. The event will start around 8 I think and go until just after lunch... we'll find out more on that at the April 6th meeting.
The ARC may be at our meeting this month and with that I'll turn our heads toward Hurricane season. Lauderdale and Clarke EOC's have a HAM presence and hopefully soon can communicate if needed. More information to be released at the meeting so try to be there.

The Mississippi QSO Party (MSQP) is held the first weekend of April each year. The 12 hour event encourages ALL Mississippi hams to get on the air handing out Mississippi QSOs to hams around the world. This is also an excellent event for county hunters since many participants will operate mobile or portable from rare counties around the state. High scoring participants in each category will receive a beautiful solid wooden plaque recognizing their accomplishment.

Field Day Countdown
(from ARRL newsletter)
Field Day is just about 3 months away, and now is the time for your club to plan for the event. Many of the details of this event should not be left to the last minute. With hopes of pointing clubs in the right direction, here are a few tips that may help.
1. Plan your location with a few questions in mind.
a. Will you have public traffic around your site, and are the antennas you will be using mindful of safety?
b. Is your site on property that requires supplying an insurance certificate to the owners? Many public sites require this.
c. Are you planning to create signs telling the public what you are doing and inviting them to learn more?
d. Does the site have adequate parking and access? Remember, Field Day is a 24-hour operation. You don't want to get locked in or out of your location, especially once it's dark.
e. Have you reviewed the safety requirements for fueling and grounding your generator? Noise may be an issue if you are on a public site.
f. How do you plan to keep the site clean and uncluttered for pictures?
2. Contact the local media to invite them to your site.
