President's Report
Hello all,
The Jackson Ham Fest held at the trade center looked as if it was a little down this year, according to the ones that went. I myself did not make the event this year but plan to make next years event. Now that it is be hide us we can bring up the next business meeting which happens to be this coming Tuesday the 7th and will be located at Logan's Steak House.
For those who did not make the last meeting, all I can say is that you missed a great one as we had a drawing for a radio. Congratulations to CJ Caufield for winning the radio, I hope you put it to good use ASAP.
After this month's meeting we will discuss the connections of the packet radio system. Some radios are simple to hook up others require a few more bells and whistles to make it useful for both data and voice or you can go bare bones for just data only. We will also discuss any other projects that you may be interested in.
See you at the meeting,
73's Charles KB5SZJ

Networked Radio User's Group
The Networked Radio User's Group (NRUG) has been organized to serve the common interests and goals of the trustees and users of Repeaters, RF Links, EchoLink, IRLP, APRS, and the implementation of such other technologies that may also become useful in providing weather spotting information and emergency communications in Mississippi.
W5NRU, the club call sign for NRUG, was chosen to uniquely identify the organization, and also to honor the memory of a dear SK friend who made the first phone contact with WB5YLF (then newly licensed as a Technician. This was back in the days before Novice Enhancement, Tech Plus, and No Code licenses.) This friend was Forrest "Slim" Williams. Slim was a kind, soft-spoken, and thoughtful man, a Christian man. (Slim wasn't my actual elmer, but he was pretty close. SG)
Please visit http://www.qsl.net/aa5sg or http://www.echolink.org for information on EchoLink. Please visit http://www.qsl.net/w5nru for information pertaining to the South Central Weather Net. Revised URLs will be posted here as needed. A more comprehensive NRUG web site is planned.
Those parties having the interests and goals as listed above, and who wish to make contact for the purpose of furthering those, may send their query to the email address found above this text.

Crystal Sets to Sideband / Free Book
Thank you WA5WUX for this information. You can download the whole book or just chapters when you get to the web page.
The Four State QRP Group is very pleased to offer the latest version of Crystal Sets To Sideband by Frank W. Harris, KØIYE. This book has become an icon within the QRP community as an excellent treatise on the homebrewing science/art.
When first released in 2002 Mr. Harris donated his work to amateur radio. He provided these Version 12 pdf files to Four State on 21 Jan 2011. They are free and are posted with his permission. Frank is a retired engineer and an excellent author. His easy to read style makes this not only a fine and informative reference book, but also a very pleasant reading experience. http://www.wa0itp.com/crystalsetsssb.html
