Mr. Russell Brown W5RBRussell Brown, W5RB, was a very dedicated Ham radio operator. He was past-president of MARC and was instrumental in getting MARC 501(c)3 status. Russell was there whenever someone was needed to provide emergency communications. He worked the tornado event in Newton County in 2003, and many local weather events. Russell was at Lauderdale Emergency Management Agency through Hurricane Katrina and manned the radios faithfully.
Russell was a mentor to new Ham operators and a teacher for potential operators. He was always there and active on Field Day, coaching new operators throughout the event. Teacher, mentor, emergency communications operator, and friend... Russell and his dry sense of humor will be missed.
The memorial for Russell took place on Saturday, July 7, 2012. There was a good group of friends and family. Many spoke and shared memories. It was a beautiful service. Thank you for joining the family for this celebration of his life. Survivors include his mother, Bonnie J. Brown; sister Rebecca May; brother Rod Brown and his wife Janie; his niece Cala Brown; and nephews Erin Lane Brown, Michael Henry and his wife Cindy; and Mathew Mitchum. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his father, Lt. Commander Warren Russell Brown of the United States Navy. Russell's remains are behind the marker pictured. A small portion of the ashes will be taken on one last bike ride at Faunsdale this year. Russell will be remembered as long as the family and friends who love him remain.
July 8th, 2012 / Becca Mayo: Thank you to all of Russell's loyal friends that honored him here and at his memorial Saturday. You all truly were his life. July 6th, 2012 / Jim Brolaski: My sympathy on the loss of a member of MARC, please extend my heart felt sympathy to Russell's family. It is a great loss when any ham goes silent key, the hobby loses a much needed person. From what I saw the hobby has lost a true friend and Elmer. Russell will truly be missed but his legacy will live on through MARC and it's members that knew him and that will honor him by continuing what Russell started. Again let me express Our heart felt sympathy fro all of us at Hub City Amateur Radio Sales. 73 ... Jim AE5OG
